Lubrication is defined as the science of facilitating the relative movement of surfaces in contact with each other. If you look under the microscope at two surfaces that move next to each other, you will see depressions and elevations on the surface. When this happens, pieces of the weak material are chipped off and create smaller abrasive particles that will in turn cause more wear. A way to prevent this vicious cycle is to use a lubricating film. In addition to reducing the mechanical efficiency and shortening the life of the machine, the basic lubrication of the machines also leads to excessive erosion, wear and premature failure.
